Beginner Guide

Cloudheim blends physics combat, visual crafting, and sky-base management into one loop. Your first hour sets the rhythm for everything that follows.

After Ragnarok shattered the world, you awaken as a Runari — an ancient warrior chosen by the gods. Your refuge is Odin Shell, a massive flying turtle that serves as your workshop, shop, and gateway to distant islands via Bifrost gates.

The tutorial walks you through Arcadia Act 1: combat basics, your first ore haul, and essential base structures. Treat the game as an expedition loop — explore an island, gather loot, return home, craft and sell, then head out stronger.

  1. 1 Choose a starting class (Runeblade, Sentinel, Breaker, or Ranger) — this only affects your first weapon; you can switch anytime by crafting new gear.
  2. 2 Complete the Arcadia tutorial: learn movement, evade, kick (E), and lasso (Q).
  3. 3 Mine sharp black rocks in Arcadia for Tin and Copper — Wren's quest needs 27 Crude Tin Ore early on.
  4. 4 Return to Odin Shell and press C to enter Construction Mode. Place a Blin Construction Guild first.
  5. 5 Build a Smelter, Forge, and Gnasher Nest near your Bifrost gate for efficient production.
  6. 6 Process ore: Cleansing Pool (3 corrupted → 1 clean) → Smelter (3 clean → 1 bar) → Forge (3 bars → 1 weapon).
  7. 7 Place unwanted items on a Sales Table to level your shop and unlock passive resource buildings.
Your class is determined by your equipped weapon, not a permanent choice. Experiment freely.
Do not hoard — turtle storage is limited. Sell extras to fund shop upgrades.
Keep production buildings close to the Bifrost gate; walking across the shell gets tedious fast.
Demo progress carries over to the full Early Access game if you played before launch.

Controls

Cloudheim switches between combat and construction contexts. Muscle memory for both modes prevents costly mistakes during corrupted invasions.

Full controller support is available. PC players can rebind keys in Settings. Below are the default keyboard and mouse bindings for combat and exploration.

Classes & Weapons

Cloudheim has no fixed class selection. Your equipped weapon defines your class, skills, and stat growth. Swap weapons mid-combat to adapt to any situation.

Each class has distinct attack speed, skill trees, and combat roles. Extended use of a weapon builds Mastery, unlocking new abilities. XP from combat and activities raises your character level, increasing Magic, Speed, Strength, and Vigor based on weapons used.

  • Craft weapons at the Forge by placing 3 bars of the same material on the section matching your desired class.
  • Carry multiple weapons in inventory — switch freely in the field without respec penalties.
  • Combo finishers vary by class: Runeblades recover health on combo completion.
  • There is no official tier list; all four classes are viable. Match weapon to enemy type instead of chasing a meta.
ClassForge SectionPlaystyleBest For
BreakerStrengthHeavy axes and hammers. Slow, devastating hits.Armored enemies and bosses
RangerSpeedFast dual-wielding. High mobility and combos.Swarms and sustained DPS
RunebladeStaminaElemental magic and healing.Ranged damage and team support
SentinelVigorShields and physics objects.Tanking and crowd control
Facing a heavily armored boss? Forge a Breaker axe and slot it as your secondary weapon to build Breaker mastery on demand.
The Forge runs four independent crafting slots — one per class — so you can craft all four weapon types simultaneously.

Combat & Physics

Combat in Cloudheim is physics-driven chaos inspired by Zelda and Devil May Cry. The environment is fully breakable, and enemy positioning matters as much as raw damage.

Impulse skills — Launch, Pull, Push, and Smash — manipulate enemies and objects. Kick (E) sends foes flying; Lasso (Q) yanks them into hazards. Chain abilities into team combos in co-op for devastating results.

  • Combos: successive hits deal increasing damage. Dodge and kick to maintain combo chains.
  • Environmental destruction: break crates, walls, and pillars for loot and tactical advantage.
  • Kick barrels into enemy groups, lasso foes into tornadoes, fire Greebles from cannons.
  • Unbridled Chaos mode lets you lasso allies — use responsibly (or don't).
Mana Burn: using abilities beyond their cooldown fills a blue bar. When full, you slow dramatically and lose skill access. Pace your ability usage.
Smash pillars onto grouped enemies for massive physics damage.
Corrupted Heart Fragments found in the world permanently increase your health pool.

Crafting & Forge

Nearly all weapons are player-crafted. The production loop is a three-step pipeline with a consistent 3-to-1 conversion ratio at each stage.

Material quality matters — higher-tier ores produce stronger weapons. The Forge throws crafted items outward, so leave open space on all four sides for easy pickup.

Visual crafting means no menu waiting in co-op. Craft at the Forge, Key Press, or other stations while teammates continue exploring.

  1. 1 Step 1 — Cleansing Pool: Place 3 identical corrupted ore pieces on the outer rim. After processing, collect 1 clean ore. Queue multiple batches.
  2. 2 Step 2 — Smelter: Place 3 identical clean ore pieces. Output is 1 metal bar or crystal.
  3. 3 Step 3 — Forge: Place 3 identical bars on one of four class sections (Strength/Stamina/Vigor/Speed). Output is 1 weapon for that class.
27 corrupted tin ore → 9 clean → 3 bars → 1 weapon. Memorize the 3:1 chain.
Fist weapons and some enchanted gear drop from lockboxes or boss lucky loot — not all gear is forgeable.
Check material quality before smelting; mixing qualities wastes resources.

Base Building

Odin Shell is your floating headquarters. Efficient layout dramatically reduces downtime between expeditions.

Press C to enter Construction Mode. The Blin Construction Guild unlocks most production buildings. Blins are NPC workers who gather materials and operate stations once assigned.

  • Priority buildings: Cleansing Pool, Smelter, Forge, Gnasher Nest, Sales Table.
  • Place production chain near the Bifrost gate — not across the shell for aesthetics.
  • Gnasher devours unwanted items and vomits treasure back (fair trade).
  • Unlock fishing, gardening, weaponsmithing, cooking, and alchemy as you progress.
  • Decorate and expand your shop to attract more customers and reputation.
Level your shop by selling on the Sales Table — higher shop levels unlock passive resource buildings.
Recruit Blins found during expeditions and assign them to gathering or station work.
Storage is limited; sell or feed excess to Gnasher rather than hoarding.

Map & Islands

Cloudheim uses a hub-and-expedition structure — not open world. Five handcrafted islands are available in Early Access, each with unique questlines, biomes, and gods to awaken.

  • Link Bifrost gates on each island to unlock fast travel and new dungeons.
  • Collect World Stars through exploration, dungeon clears, and quest completion.
  • Frostvaldr unlocks after accumulating 55 World Stars across prior regions.
  • The in-game interactive map tracks dungeon entrances, minibosses, and reputation objectives.

Dungeons & Bosses

Dungeons are accessed through Bifrost gates and feature rearranging layouts, puzzles, waves of enemies, and boss encounters.

Each island has multi-act storylines culminating in dungeon runs and god-awakening rituals. Below are key dungeons and bosses players encounter most often.

Place Heart Ember on the statue at Helm's Rest to break the Corvins' Castle barrier.
Boss fights reward unique loot, lockbox keys, and enchanted gear.

Items & Loot

Loot comes from enemies, destructible environments, chests, bosses, fishing, and Gnasher recycling.

  • Ores: corrupted and clean variants of Tin, Copper, Iron, and rare island-specific materials.
  • Metal bars and crystals: intermediate crafting materials from the Smelter.
  • Weapons and gear: primarily Forge-crafted; some drop from bosses and lockboxes.
  • Corrupted Heart Fragments: permanent max health upgrades.
  • Enchantments: some fist weapons and rare gear accept enchantments from special drops.
  • Potions and consumables: crafted via cooking and alchemy stations.
Higher material quality produces better weapons — prioritize rare ore nodes in Frostvaldr.
Master chests in dungeons contain high-value loot; look for glowing crystals as landmarks.
Sell surplus at your Sales Table or feed to Gnasher — do not let inventory cap block expeditions.

Shop & Economy

Your sky shop on Odin Shell is both a gold source and a progression gate. Higher shop levels unlock systems and passive income.

  • Sales Table: place items for NPC customers to purchase. Selling earns gold and shop XP.
  • Orders: fulfill customer requests for bonus reputation and rewards.
  • Reputation boards: found on Dustlanger, Greenvor, and Frostvaldr — track story act progress per island.
  • Gold funds crafting materials, building upgrades, and catalogue decorations.
  • Shop reputation spreads as the best (and only) store in the skies.
Sell everything you do not need — shop level unlocks passive resource buildings that reduce grind.
Stock shelves with crafted weapons and surplus ore to keep customers returning.
Balance selling with personal gear needs; craft extras specifically for profit.

Co-op Multiplayer

Cloudheim supports 1–4 player online co-op. Progression, weapons, and abilities are shared as you grow together.

  • Steam and Epic Games players can play together via cross-store co-op.
  • Broader cross-platform play (consoles) is being explored for 1.0.
  • All unlocked weapons and abilities are shared among party members.
  • A passive catch-up system helps lower-level players stay relevant in group content.
  • Offline solo play is not officially supported — an internet connection is required.
  • Turn on Unbridled Chaos to lasso teammates during combat.
Visual crafting means no one waits in menus — craft while teammates fight.
Coordinate physics combos: one player lassos enemies into another's smash attack.
Host creates the session; guests should complete tutorial before joining endgame islands.
